Rian Johnson has a better subtitle for his Knives Out movies

Shortly after Rian Johnson’s Knives out continuation Glass onion click on Netflix, the director expressed his frustration that Netflix (presumably) forced him to create the full title of the film Glass Onion: A Mystery of the Blades so everyone would know that the movie was set in the same universe as his previous whodunit. Well, “expressed his frustration” is just one way of putting it… Johnson’s actual comment was, “Honestly, I’m pissed that we have A Knives Out Mystery in the title. Johnson’s dream was to make each of his Knives out movies completely self-contained, and he thought put that A Knives Out Mystery in the title would spoil the magic of “getting a new novel off the shelf every time.”

But now with Glass onion doing pretty well on Netflixis Johnson confident that he will eventually succeed in dropping that subtitle and replacing it with a better one, notably A Benoit Blanc mystery. That’s what Johnson said The movie cast (eg The Slash Movie Cast) recently said he wants to “see how fast we can lose” A Knives Out Mystery as the official subtitles for these things, adding, with Glass onion“Netflix’s reach” and the number of people who have apparently seen the film mean that “at least we’re getting closer to being able to get away with A Benoit Blanc mystery and people would know what we are talking about.”

So if we want that to happen with the third film, we should start calling them all “Benoit Blanc films” and not “Knives out movies,” so… ignore the thing above where we said this “Knives out movies.” We need to get the name Benoit Blanc into the public consciousness so that one day someone will say, “What’s the name of the Benoit Blanc movie where Captain America takes the knife out on the woman who throws up when she lies?”
