Cricket great shows bruised hamstring in first sighting

Former test captain Michael Clarke has suffered bruises following his Noosa video scandal.

The fallout from the altercation involving his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough, which was caught on video, continues to make headlines as the 41-year-old refuses to discuss the matter publicly.

Clarke was ripped to pieces this week by 2GB radio presenter Ben Fordham for his silence, despite his return to radio with Sky Sports’ Big Sports Breakfast show.

Clarke’s only public comment on the incident was the leg injury he sustained outside a Noosa restaurant on January 10.

In the explosive footage of a shirtless Clarke being punched in the face at Lions Park in Noosa, the former cricketer was also seen limping.

Now photos have revealed the extent of his injury.

He was seen with a large bruise running from his hamstring to his calf muscle on Wednesday as he got into a car in Sydney.

He tried to keep a low profile by wearing sunglasses and casual clothes.

Clarke dismissed the severity of the injury on his return to the air on Monday.

Clarke was prompted by radio presenter Gerard Middleton on the programme, “You won’t be able to walk properly for weeks”.

Clarke, who suffered a devastating series of hamstring and back injuries during his playing career, brushed off the injury, saying it was fine and that he was just focusing on the show ahead.

“No, it’s fine mate, it’s on the mend, I’m ready to go, I’m ready, race day, good to go, on the mend,” Clarke said.

Appearing for the first time this year alongside co-hosts Gerard Middleton and Laurie Daley, Clarke was largely spoken by Middleton, who stated that the show would not address the matter.

“Now, of course, there’s a huge fascination with Clarkey’s life and we’re just hitting this on the head right away,” said Middleton.

“It’s a private matter that Clarkey is clearly engaged in, a very, very private matter that has unfortunately been made public.

“There are a lot of factors at play here and Clarkey’s made its statement last week and because of all the factors that come into play, we’re continuing this morning with The Big Sports Breakfast.”

Clarke had previously announced that he had enjoyed a good summer break, but was looking forward to getting back to work despite the 4am alarm clock.

“Good morning guys. Good morning to our listeners. Yeah, a good break,” Clarke said.

“Five weeks is a long time. Sleep in a lot. Was nice to sleep after 4am but nice to be back.”

He also revealed that he was recently approached to comment on the upcoming Pakistan Super League T20 competition, days after it emerged that he was in danger of losing his six-figure commentary gig for Australia’s upcoming tour of India.

The former batting superstar’s radio commentary represented his first public statements since he apologized for the drama last Wednesday, telling The Daily Telegraph: “I accept full responsibility for this altercation and am devastated at my actions.”

His apology came after a dramatic vision emerged of Yarbrough accusing him of cheating on her with his famous fashion designer ex-girlfriend Pip Edwards.

In the footage, Clarke can be heard continually denying the claim, with his partner punching him in the face at one point during the screaming match.

It is clear that Edwards and Yarbrough had been in contact, which led to the confrontation with Clarke.

Presenter Karl Stefanovic and his partner Jasmine Yarbrough, Jade’s sister, were also present during the fight today.

On Saturday, Clarke and Jade Yarbrough were fined for public nuisance by Queensland Police after officers examined the footage.

“No other violations were found during the investigation,” police told

“No further information is available and the investigation has been completed.”

Clarke represented Australia in 115 test matches and 245 ODIs after making his international debut in 2003.

The right-hander scored 8,643 Test runs, including 28 centuries and a career-best 329 not away against India at the SCG in 2012.

He led Australia to their victory in the 2013/14 Ashes whitewash and victory at the 2015 World Cup.

A spokesman for Tabcorp, the company that owns Sky Sports Radio, producers of the Big Sports Breakfast, told “the company does not comment on the personal affairs of its employees”.
